Our History

Viking State Bank & Trust was established in February of 1996.  The bank began with a downtown Decorah location on Water Street with $2,500,000 of bank capital.

As a brand-new bank charter, Viking State Bank & Trust began with zero deposits and zero loans on the first day of operation on February 20, 1996.

The bank grew quickly and by the end of the year in 1996, there was already almost $6 million in loans and almost $4.5 million in deposits.  As of December 31, 2006, after 10 years of operation, the bank had grown to $99 million in total assets.  At that time, loans totaled $74 million and deposits of $83.7 million.

Viking State Bank & Trust merged with Waukon State Bank in January of 2012.  This allowed the VSBT customers to also conduct banking transactions at the Waukon State Bank locations.

Viking State Bank & Trust, A Division of Waukon State Bank, continues to grow and 25 years later has over $118 million in loans and over $153 million in deposits.

As original employees of the bank, Rick Burras and Rhonda Schnitzler have served local customers for the last 25 years.  Rick, Rhonda and their dedicated staff continue to provide the best in banking services and look forward to serving you for many years to come.
